The Upside Allentown Arts & Culture Committee has set a bold vision for Allentown – to become the foremost city in Pennsylvania when it comes to Arts and Cultural opportunities, accessibility, education, advocacy, audience opportunities and housing/space for artists. With the guidance of Corona Insights, the authors of the Imagine 2020 Cultural Plan for the City of Denver, Colorado we have embarked on a 15-month, two-phase project to create a Cultural Plan for the Center City Initiative zone in Allentown. As a first step, Corona Insights conducted a needs assessment to better understand the current issues facing arts and culture in Allentown’s center city. Read more about the assessment and next steps here.
We are extremely pleased to share the results of the Phase 1 Needs Assessment Report for the Arts & Culture Plan with the members of the Upside Allentown Steering Committee(Arts & Culture Committee).
Over 90 days of work by the Upside Allentown Arts & Culture Committee, our consultants, Corona Insights, and members of the community has gone into this report which will serve as our guiding document for the next year of work in preparing the final Arts & Culture Plan for the Center City Initiative Zone.
For those who weren’t able to join us last week for the presentation of the report findings, we’ve attached an Executive Summary and the full report for your review. As Co-Chairs of the Committee, Ellen and I would be happy to speak with you if there are any questions regarding the report.
In conclusion, we are excited and energized by this report as we continue to build the momentum necessary to carry this project not only through it’s planning phase, but through the very important implementation phase that will follow. From those who have already viewed the report, we can tell you that there are already new ideas and initiatives coming to the forefront and we invite you to join us on this very important journey for the arts and the future of the center city of Allentown.
Thank you again for your continued support of Arts & Culture in the community and we look forward to providing a further update on our progress at the November Steering Committee meeting.
